Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov and the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank Dimitar Radev signed today a position in support of the introduction of the euro in the Republic of Bulgaria as from 1 January 2026. The position confirms all actions taken by both the executive and the Bulgarian National Bank on the basis of the decisions of the National Assembly in the past years in support of the measures aimed at fulfilling the conditions for convergence, as well as for the effective introduction of the euro with all the safeguards for the Bulgarian society as from 1 January 2026.
In front of journalists in the National Assembly, Prime Minister Jeliazkov pointed out that the aim of the position was to assure the EU partners that Bulgaria valued the rule of law, that it was a rule-of-law state and the commitments should be fulfilled as they had been made, and that the efforts of the Bulgarian society over the last 20 years should be respected. The Prime Minister added that this position was open to the extent that every MP could sign it so as to demonstrate to the European institutions their support.
Prime Minister Jeliazkov admired today’s position of the Speaker of the National Assembly Ms. Nataliya Kiselova on the topic and pointed out that it was in line with the rule of law. Mr. Jelyazkov expressed his gratitude to the legal community in Bulgaria, to all lawyers who expressed their clear position in support of the rule of law in the last couple of days. The Prime Minister was adamant that Bulgaria could not abide by the rule of law and the law in certain areas only, but should defend it in every area of our social, economic and political existence. Mr. Jeliazkov added that in his view this issue which had thrown the democratic community in the country into great concern was already behind us.
In the National Assembly, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov took part in the meeting of the Joint Governance Council. The Prime Minister presented the government’s legislative programme to the ruling parties. A review of the deadlines in the Cabinet’s management programme and of the priorities set therein was also made. The legislative programme adopted by the Cabinet for the period until June envisages 55 bills, with a programme for the next six-month period planned to be prepared. The purpose of today’s presentation of the programme is to ensure that the ruling coalition stands behind these bills and priorities that are related to the Republic of Bulgaria Governance Programme as well as to align them with the legislative initiatives of each of the parliamentary groups that make up the coalition, so as to achieve the strategic objectives of the governance and the implementation of the programme.
Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said that they had received the necessary support and were proceeding with implementation, and pointed out that the coalition stood firmly behind the Government. The Prime Minister also noted that the coalition was stable and guaranteed all the prerequisites for a meaningful governance for the entire term of office.
